The MPA was involved in the 1st IBA'27 Festival with two guided tours of the laboratories. The first tour was also conducted as part of the Smart Home & Living Baden-Württemberg network.

The development of sustainable building materials (e.g. insulating materials made from mushroom mycelium, bricks made from recycled materials, bio-concrete and graded concrete components) for building shell and structures is the goal of two EU projects in which the University of Stuttgart is participating. The projects "Exploit4InnoMat - An Open Innovation Ecosystem for exploitation of materials for building envelopes towards zero energy buildings" and "EASI ZERo - Envelope mAterial System with low Impact for Zero Energy buildings and Renovation" started at the beginning of this year. The suitability of sustainable materials for use in real building components is being investigated at the Materials Testing Institute (MPA). These include thermal conductivity, fire behaviour, strength and freedom from pollutants. The guided tours showed the laboratories and testing facilities at the MPA as well as the laboratory for the automated production of graded concrete components at the Institute for Lightweight Design and Construction (ILEK).
